Performers all have a story to tell, whether they’re a bestselling artist or just getting their start. Here at Voiceworks Studio, we take pride in highlighting these stories and today we have Emma O’Callaghan, a singer getting vocal lessons at our Cork Studio. What is Emma’s story?
Congratulations on being accepted to the brand new Music Theatre Degree at CIT CSM! How do you feel?
Thank you so much!! I’m absolutely over the moon and I can’t wait to get started in September.
What made you choose this course?
Musical theatre and performing is something I’ve grown up doing and have a great passion for, so when I heard about this course it was a dream really as I get to study something I enjoy doing and also progress further into a hopefully future career … (and of course, the fact it’s in cork is just a major bonus!)
You studied with Sarah Burke-Hochstedler at Voiceworks Studio, how has your time been there?
I absolutely loved every second studying at voiceworks, and I definitely owe a lot of that to my teacher Sarah! She helped me so much in all areas necessary as a performer. It was like coming to visit a friend every Wednesday as she made my time in class so enjoyable.
Along with that, the atmosphere is the studio is so comfortable. Everyone is so chatty and willing to share tips and tricks when it comes to performing which is helpful too!
We love your performance of “How Will I Know” for Voiceworks Acoustic TV. What made you choose to perform this song?
I remember hearing a rendition of it on X-factor a few years back and I wanted to give it a go myself! I also wanted to try something new and I felt it suited my voice a lot at the time.
Your favorite artist of all time and why?
I’d definitely have to say Billie Eilish! I’m absolutely obsessed with her music and I think she is one of the most talented musicians to date! It’s hard to believe she’s so successful at such a young age but the fact her music is so raw and unique proves she is completely deserving of her place in the industry today!
If anything was possible, no obstacles, what’s the big dream?
My dream has always been to be a professional performer traveling with the west end or broadway of course!! To be able to travel while living out the dream job would be the big goal in my life, which I’m most definitely going to work my hardest towards! Being on stage is such a fulfilling experience for me and it’s something I’d love to be able to do as a career! I’m hoping one day it won’t just be a dream and it may become a reality!!
Here’s Emma O’Callaghan performing How Will I Know, by Whitney Houston
