Coming from a family of professional musicians, the value of music has been instilled in Darragh from a very young age. This has led him to pursue his own career in music, thus influencing his choices in third-level education and driving him to complete the Rockschool® internationally recognised graded music qualifications in both piano and vocals.
His natural talent and proficiency as a keyboard player, vocalist and songwriter meant Jericho – the funk/soul outfit with which Darragh toured and recorded his original material – was soon sharing a stage with likes of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and The Rubberbandits. He has performed with the likes of Karen Underwood, The Niall McCabe Band, Voice of Ireland winner Keith Hanley and Ireland’s quickest rising recording artist, Stephanie Rainey. Subsequent work recording or touring with famous Irish acts such as Finbar Furey, Paul Moore (Van Morrison) and Brian Deady afforded Darragh the opportunity to support international legends Nile Rogers and Billy Ocean, as well as being invited to feature on national television shows such as The Late Late Show and in radio spots on the shows of personalities Derek Mooney and Neil Prendeville among others. In combination with this, Darragh often works alongside Lawrence White of Lawrence White Audio, co-owner of the successful WoodStreet Studios in the centre of Cork City. There, Darragh currently acts as a musician, arranger, musical director and producer/executive producer for many local artists. Soon to be released from Wood Street studios this year will be rising internet sensation Cian Ducrot’s first E.P,Voice of Ireland finalist Jamie Stanton’s rock album ‘Flying Colours’ and an record titled “Wierdos and Bears”by HardyBucks star Kate Lawless.
Darragh has become a sought-after session musician and producer, well-known for his professionalism, talent and creativity within Ireland’s music community. For this reason, following much performance work with directors of Voiceworks Studio Gemma Sugrue and Laoise O’Hanlon, Darragh joined the Voiceworks Studio team as an accompanist for their students. It was at this time that his enthusiasm and skill as a mentor came to light, eventually resulting in the development of a creative songwriting workshop for Voiceworks students.
In his work with Voiceworks Studio students, Darragh likes to keep the emphasis on fun and creativity, allowing the students to find their own musical intelligence. The significance of breath control, improvisation and aural awareness are strongly emphasised, as well as just being yourself! With these areas covered in his work at Voiceworks, Darragh aims to provide his students a strong foundation based on both technical exercises and creative expression.
