Gemma is the director and co-founder of vocal tuition centre, Voiceworks Studio and is a vocal coach, conductor and professional vocalist based in Cork city. She graduated from CIT Cork School of Music with 1st class honours MA and Bmus degree, specializing in vocal performance.
Gemma is an avid performer and has played leading roles in various stage productions and is also a popular backing vocalist and session singer having performed/recorded with artists including Camille O' Sullivan, Brian Deady, John Spillane, Jack O' Rourke, The Niall McCabe Band, Jericho, Laoise Leahy, Aine Whelan and has supported acts including Chic, Billy Ocean, Jerry Fish and Lee Fields. She also fronts the live soul act, Stone Fox and is a featured guest jazz vocalist with The Hot House Big Band, The Sam Barker Trio and is hired as a vocalist for function bands including Spring Break, Soul Driven, The Pearls, The Incredibles and The Magnetics.. Gemma provides live vocals with DJ, Stevie G and has guested at fashion events including Miss Universe finals, Dress for Success and La Chat Noir. Gemma also works for company, "Singers for Hire" and is in high demand as a freelance vocalist for weddings and events.
She has toured Australia, The Caribbean, Europe and the UK as the soprano soloist with theatre group, Ceol Chiarraí. Her recording experience includes studio sessions for Audio Sunshine and Arena on RTE Radio 1, live sessions on Newstalk and Cork's 96fm, Redfm, work with composer C.S.L. Parker and has provided session vocals for Red Door Productions, French Quarter Studios, Navian Studios, Brian Deady independent and many other promotional recordings.
Vocal coaching/artist development is Gemma's true passion and contemporary vocal coaching (pop, jazz, music theatre) would be her main area of expertise. She has had the pleasure of working with some incredible vocalists including Keith Hanley (winner of The Voice of Ireland 2013), Velvin Lamont (Voice of Ireland), Deborah Murphy (pro wedding vocalist), Muireann Holly (pro wedding vocalist), Karen Tynan (pro stage singer), Tiz McNamara (artist) Claire O' Leary (student of Arts Ed London), Cian Ducrot (artist/YouTuber) Aine Carroll (artist/YouTuber) and many more. This year her student, Ellie Quinlan, was a finalist on TG4's Junior Eurovision Song Contest and her girlband "Mini-Mix" (age 10-12) performed their cover of Wings with trad band and dancers on The Late Late Toy Show. Gemma's choir, Voiceworks Youth Choir, have also enjoyed great success and look forward to performing on Ireland AM on TV3 this Christmas and with Karen Underwood at The Everyman Palace Theatre.
Last year Gemma was invited to conduct the Kerry School Choir Showcase 2015 which includes participation from 10 primary schools from Co. Kerry co-ordinated by The Killarney Musical Society and looks forward to returning to this project in Jan 2016.
Gemma's diverse experience as a working singer in Ireland and abroad informs and inspires her one to one sessions with students at Voiceworks. It has also determined the direction in which she leads the school to ensure the coaching and tuition at Voiceworks is enriching, valuable and relevant for all budding and professional singers/musicians/artists/performers in today's music industry.
